The Southern California sunshine felt good on her face and fair skin as Mackenzy drove up the Pacific Coast Highway. The navigation system alerted her to turn left onto Malibu Road, and another left on Malibu Colony Road. A driveway off Malibu Colony Road led to a circular drive. Jake and Caitlandâs two-story house stood on an elevated acre of land surrounded by foliage and trees. In the far corner of the property was a stable, and outside were two stallions, one solid black, and the other solid white. The house was a modern design of wood, stone, and glass, with two solid oak front doors. The glass interior had an unobstructed, breathtaking view of the Pacific Ocean. Jake would tell visitors the ocean was on the wrong side of the house, having spent his prior life east of the Mississippi. Behind the house was the pool and hot tub, surrounded by exotic foliage, behind a brick fire fireplace and barbecue, the patio done in intricate stonework. The square footage of the house allowed more than enough space for additional rooms, but Jake liked the open interior. Having spent his early years in the orphanage, with only a top bunk bed and a locker to call his own, space had a special meaning to him. The house was beautiful, not ostentatious, and had a warm, peaceful, and comfortable feeling. Mackenzy drove past the house and looked at the entranceway then for escape routes. She had to plan this one. There were security personnel at the estate. She saw a security guard walking a German Shepherd Around the exterior of the house.
There would be several photographers, so she had to be careful not to appear in any photos. She found a place to pull over and went to the trunk to find clothes for the evening. In the car, she changed into black slacks and a white blouse, flat shoes. She did her best to fix her hair and makeup. While changing clothes, Mackenzy decided to be bold to gain entrance to the house. She walked back to the trunk and reached inside for her purse. She double-checked everything she needed was there. She peeled off the paper around the spray paint to expose the silver. If asked about it, she would say it was a can of hair spray. She buried two pairs of latex gloves inside a side pocket of the purse. She concealed the vials of Diprivan in her bra. When it came to killing, she would use a knife from Jakeâs own kitchen. If her plan did not work, she would have to find a way to stow away in the house. She got back in the Mustang, turned the car around, and drove toward the driveway. She let another car coming from the opposite direction drive onto the driveway first. She followed behind. The first car stopped at the front doors. Caitland and Mackenzy got out and walked up the steps to the front doors. The valet opened one of them, so they could go inside.
